Niche Water Type Pokemon

Water has a huge roster, so the niche Water-types are the ones with a strange body plan or a single narrow job: Luvdisc, Wishiwashi, Pyukumuku, Alomomola, and Bruxish.

Ten rows, not a top fifty

Pokemon Database’s type chart gives Water a weakness to Electric and Grass, and a resistance to Fire, Water, Ice, and Steel. That is one source for the chart. The ten species here were checked on Pokemon Database and Serebii: Luvdisc at 330 with no evolution, Relicanth at 485 with Rock Head or Sturdy and no evolution, Corsola at 410 with Natural Cure or Regenerator (Galarian Corsola is Ghost, a different species), Alomomola at 470 with Wish and Regenerator, Lumineon at 460 with Storm Drain or Swift Swim, Pyukumuku at 410 with Innards Out and almost no attacking moves, Wishiwashi at 175 in Solo Form and 620 in School Form, Basculin at 460, Qwilfish at 440, and Bruxish at 475 with Dazzling blocking priority.

Wishiwashi’s Schooling change is the clearest number on the page: level 20 or higher and HP above 25 percent for the school, and a return to the small form under 25 percent HP. I am not stretching these ten into a top-fifty list. The rest of the Water roster stays in the niche pokemon list only when it is already in the 67.

FAQ

What is a niche water type Pokemon?

A Water-type kept for one odd mechanic or a very low total. Wishiwashi, Pyukumuku, and Luvdisc are the three I would name first.

What is Wishiwashi’s base stat total?

175 in Solo Form and 620 in School Form, from Pokemon Database and Serebii.
