Skitty: Why It Is a Niche Pokemon
Skitty is a Generation 3 pure Normal kitten with a 260 base stat total, a Moon Stone evolution, and the rare Normalize ability. Its niche is not raw power. It is the pink cat of Hoenn, the only Generation 3 Pokemon that evolves with a Moon Stone, and one half of the only Normalize line.
What the dex pages agree on
Pokemon Database and Serebii both list Skitty as national number 300, introduced in Generation 3, pure Normal, species name Kitten Pokemon, 0.6 m and 11.0 kg. The base stat total is 260, split 50 HP, 45 Attack, 45 Defense, 35 Special Attack, 35 Special Defense, and 50 Speed. Abilities are Cute Charm and Normalize, with Wonder Skin as the hidden ability. It evolves into Delcatty with a Moon Stone. I kept those figures because the two dex pages matched on 5 Nov 2026.
Bulbapedia describes a pink kitten with a cream crescent on the face, purple inner ears, and a tail that ends in three yellow bumps. In battle the tail puffs out. I treat the body description as a design note from that wiki, not as a claim I measured.
Where the niche actually is
Skitty and Delcatty are the only Pokemon with Normalize. Normalize turns the user’s moves into Normal-type moves and raises their power. Smogon’s Delcatty analysis says that change lets Thunder Wave paralyze Ground-types, and it gives the line a second same-type bonus on priority. The cost is total failure against Ghost-types, plus a wall against Steel and Rock. I am not upgrading that forum analysis into an official rule. It is one competitive reading of a real ability.
Delcatty’s base stat total is 400. Bulbapedia’s trivia calls that the lowest total among Pokemon that evolve by evolutionary stone. Skitty’s own Assist was a signature move in Generation 3. I mention Assist as history, not as a recommendation for a current team.
If you want the kitten for a collection, the fit is a Hoenn playthrough, a Normalize puzzle, or a pink-cat theme. If you want a high-usage attacker, this line is the wrong shelf. That split is my judgment from the stat total and the Smogon note, not a tier-list grade.
Where it appears, and what a card cost
Bulbapedia’s location table puts Skitty on Route 116 in Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, and Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire, and on Route 222 during a swarm in Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, and Brilliant Diamond / Shining Pearl. Colosseum, XD, FireRed, and LeafGreen only receive it by trade. The Pokéwalker Hoenn Field course is also listed there. I did not add routes that page does not name.
The same wiki’s card index lists Skitty prints from EX Ruby & Sapphire 44 in 2003 through later sets. The TCGplayer response available on 5 Nov 2026 was a JavaScript-only shell, so no market price is printed here. More card rows sit on niche pokemon cards.
FAQ
Why is Skitty considered niche?
It is a low-total Normal kitten whose real signature is Normalize, shared only with Delcatty, plus a Moon Stone evolution that no other Generation 3 Pokemon uses.
What does Skitty evolve into?
Delcatty, by Moon Stone. Delcatty’s base stat total is 400.
Where do you find Skitty?
Route 116 in the Hoenn games and their remakes, and Route 222 as a swarm in the Sinnoh games and their remakes. Several other games only get it by trade.
